Theories about the "end of the world" or things like that have been found all over for centuries, though these days the interenet tends to spread them even more. The latest version that has become quite popular is that the world will end on December 21, 2012. Much of this is based on the last date of the Mayan calendar, which is December 21, 2012.Nostrodamus also foretold many disasters occurring on or leading up to December 21, 2012, as well.
Throughout time, many have speculated on the end of the world, when it will occur and what it will be like. They base this on one of Nostradamus' prophecies regarding a planet that will approach the earth and could alter the earth's gravitational pull and knock the earth off its axis. If this happened, the resulting drag on the Earth's crust would tear it into pieces, and in turn that would cause a host of other disastrous events, resulting in billions of deaths. While billions of people would die in such a series of events, there would be a few survivos - and some believe that those who would live through it are on a list that has been determined by the government.
This topic - those who would survive - has led to many questions.Conspiracy theories have also arisen. A theory that has gained belief with many is that the government has established a list of the few thousand who will be saved, and that they will preserve the future of mankind. This theory supposes that the list of survivors will include those in power in government and corporations, those who can bear children and are healthy, and those who can maintain and continue to develop technology.
The theory goes further to say that the chosen few who survive will be moved into underground bunkers ahead of the disasters, where they will be provided with stockpiled supplies of necessities such as food and water. The underground bunker will serve as a shelter to protect those who are living within.
As well as the necessities of food and water in the bunkers, they will also have items such as seeds for growing their own produce over the years. By supplying the seeds in these bunkers, new life will be sustained going forward. Many believe that it will be years or decades before the earth's aboveground soil would be able to grow and sustain plant life.
Theories such as this seem very difficult to understand. A common question is whether the government is attempting to maintain calm among the populace while some openly question about the upcoming events. If this theory is accurate, we wonder who the people who are on the list will be.
While we have no evidence of a scientific nature to demonstrate that this will happen, there are many other events that could pose a threat to us and to the planet - even before the year 2012. Events like an asteroid hitting our planet, a major flu outbreak, a nuclear or biochemical conflict all threaten our species. There is little if anything that can be certain in this life, but routine preparedness for various events is advised.
